We want every candle you light to be a moment of calm, comfort, or a little indulgence. To get the best (and safest) experience from your Prickly Provisions candles, here are a few simple care tips:
The First Burn Matters
Let your candle burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt edge to edge—this helps prevent tunneling and ensures an even burn for future use. For most candles, that means 2–4 hours on the first burn.
Trim Your Wick
Before each burn, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch for cotton wicks and 1/8 inch for wooden wicks. This helps control the flame height, prevents soot, and extends the life of your candle.
Don’t Overdo It
Avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. This keeps the wax pool clean and the scent throw balanced.
Follow the 2-Foot Rule
Always keep burning candles at least two feet away from anything flammable—like clothing, books, curtains, plants, or decor. Safety first, always.
Burn on a Heat-Safe Surface
Place your candle on a flat, stable surface that can handle heat. Avoid placing near fans, air vents, or open windows where drafts can cause uneven burning or accidents.
Reuse Your Vessel
Our candle jars and concrete vessels are designed to be reused! Once your candle is finished, clean out the remaining wax and repurpose the container for pens, plants, or your next creative idea.
